چکیده

In this project, we proposed to develop and investigate a sensitive microwave sensor based on a two-cell SQUID by imitating the operational principle of the fly's ears. The fly ormia shows astonishing localization ability with its tiny hearing organ. In this report, we show first measurement results based on several available Josephson junction (JJ) circuits. We investigated the current-voltage characteristics as a function of external magnetic field. We have also developed a new experimental setup for applying microwave signals with controllable phase shift and observed the response of the SQUID circuits to small variations of the phase and/or amplitude of two microwave signals coupled off-chip. We find that the dc voltage of the studied two-cell SQUID varied by 0.02 μV under the change of the phase difference of the microwave radiation signal by 1°. Furthermore, we designed new specially tailored SQUID circuits dedicated for measurements of the microwave phase difference between two incoming signals. The designed circuits have been submitted for fabrication at Hypres Inc.

Optimal SQUID based non-destructive test for detecting sub-surface defects with the help of advanced SQUID superconducting sensors and an experimental approach for optimal production method of these sensors from the YBCO superconductor materials

The conventional eddy current method for non-destructive inspection of welding joints has limitations that can examine defects to a certain depth below the surface of the sample and is not suitable for determining deep defects. This limitation can be overcome using the SQUID superconducting sensors. The nonstoichiometric composition of YBCO due to its superconducting temperature and desired cri...

The set-up of an high temperature superconductor radio-frequency SQUID microscope for magnetic nanoparticle detection

SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) microscopes are versatile instruments for biosensing applications, in particular for magnetic nanoparticle detection in immunoassay experiments. We are developing a SQUID microscope based on an HTS rf SQUID magnetometer sensor with a substrate resonator. For the cryogenic set-up, a configuration was realized in which the cryostat is continuous...

Magnetic field behavior of YBCO step-edge Josephson junctions in rf-washer SQUIDs - Applied Superconductivity, IEEE Transactions on

Abstruct-The suppression of the critical current in YBCO Josephson junctions by the Earth's magnetic field strongly affects the operation of SQUIDs outside magnetic shielding. Commonly, one observes a modulation of the SQUID fluxvoltage transfer function amplitude, Vsq.pp, with a period of AB,, leading to an increased white flux noise level or unstable SQUID operation. Here, we report on the in...

We report the development of different types of oxygen sensors based on yittria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) as a solid electrolyte. The conventional oxygen sensor is a concentration cell with two porous Pt electrodes, one of which is exposed to air as a constant (reference) oxygen concentration and the other is exposed to automobile exhaust gas of variable oxygen concentration, depending on the a...
